505 Evaluation

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I have looked a lot more into different research methods, The research book really helped my develop my idea and has pushed me to consider more than just one concept when doing a brief. I think my illustration skills have further developed also as i have based my whole brief two on illustration, as well as my poser brief,  I have tried to apply these skills to the best of my ability I did still really enjoy designing  my website, I have mocked them up in Illustrator but In the future I would like to learn more about web so that I can apply it to my work. I have enjoyed doing all the different processes which I have used in my project, I Used paper craft within my project and really enjoyed doing it, it is defiantly something which i would like to peruse in the future.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

Overall I have enjoyed doing all three briefs, I really feel like experimenting with different print processes and this has helped me discover new ways of working and therefore made me develop different skills which I can apply to my work in the future. Different techniques which I have tried are screen printing on to both fabric and paper and different types of digital printing as well as Paper craft and Lazor cutting. I have produced more design sheets than normal, organising my layout on design sheets , and this has defiantly helped me develop my ideas. my design sheets are better quality than previously, Design sheets have helped me move from my rough ideas on to my final products

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I really enjoyed Making the final products for  brief  2  and so i think it has shown in the work, I overall pleased with my final products from this brief, i think making the Site map illustrations  was something I enjoyed and so i will hopefully do illustration again. I really wanted to try new methods of working so that I can expand my skills, I think I have achieved this in this project and will defiantly apply the skills I have learnt to my work in the future

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

One weakness which is very obvious within all  of my projects is not enough research, if I were to go back and redo them I would start by researching everything in much more detail and further this through my project . Another thing which i would address in the future would be to do more design sheets.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

  • I would start my research much earlier into a wider range of things, as well as things which rant directly linked to the project but which is surrounding research to get more of a feel for the area of choice.
  • Within the Brief 2 I would Do some more products instead of just sticking to several designs for the product, I think more of a range would have been more refreshing., I would also create something which is 3D like a mobile which I would also look more into the area which I am looking at.
  • I would try to manage my time better and give myself time periods to do things, as well a writing myself lists and trying to be more organised.
  • I would do more design sheets, I have found that they have really helped me in the last project and I wish I had done more within the web project.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

Extra Merchandise

I have Created a few Additional Products which could be Sold at the festival such as posters, T shirts and Hoodies, as well as the tags which could go on them.

I have created this bag as i thought it would be a good idea to have paper bags which food came in these bags could be given to people when they buy food out and around the festival, on the sheet food stalls or They could simply be what the merchandise comes in.

Processes used within the Project

Processes used within the Brief
I have used several process's within this brief, i think they all add dynamic to the project some of the ones i have include are...

  • Foil Blocking
  • Fabric Screen-printing
  • Paper Screen Printing
  • Digital Printing
  • Paper Craft
  • Lazor Cutting

Here are some photo's from when I Foil Blocked.

Research booklet Photographs

These are the photo's of my research booklet on Fairytales are good, overall i am reasonably pleased with the outcome, however i wish i had been more organised with my time and booked a print slot as I printed it in the Graphics studio and the colour has come out slightly odd.

I also bound my  book unsuccessfully and had to rebind it, this has made the pages look dirty and of centre. The photographs are Very dark and don't who the booklet of properly .

Logo and Site Map experimentation

So i began what is good by creating a logo which could be used for the festival, I wanted it to have a light hearted eel to it, but still get access the idea that it is a festival based on the Brothers's grimm Fairytale, therefore i need the type to be large and the imagery to reflect this.
I then began by drawing out what ould be a site map for the festival, this will show people round the festival navigating them to different ares of the festival depending on what they want, such as wether they want food or accommodation. I want this to be printed out on A1 or A0

Mask Design

I have created these masks in order to use as navigations around the festival, i will also used these on t shirts and tote bags as well as posters around the festival itself and banners

Website in context

This is roughly what the web designs would look like, However I have designed them to fit a computer screen instead of a Phone screen or an iPad screen so they do not quite fit the size, this is just roughly what they would look like.

Web Design

Below is the website which I have designed for the festival, the design is quite basic and has quite a country feel to it, I have tried to include the colours which have been used throughout the project, which are pastel or bright and feel quite summery.

In total there are 6 page, these include a Homepage, Gallery, Ticket arena, Contact info, Line up page, And accommodation as well a a home Page, If i were to redesign the website i would do it so it could be used on iPhones and iPad swell, due to lack of time I have not done so.

Grimmfolk Festival logo Development

So I have started to create the logo for The made up festival, so far this is what I have come up with so far, However i think they need to be further developed in order to match the rest of the illustrative style which has been used throughout the festival.
