Its your choice initial ideas

Here are my posters from the original  brief Proverbially yours. This is the brief which I have decided to redo. the resin why i have decided to redo it was due to the fact my illustrator skills were tremendously limited. i had never used it before and as a result of this my fail posters looked simple and bland. the feedback i got from my posters wasn't great and so I have decided to focus on this in the new brief 'Its your choice'.

The idea which I have decided to go with it based on producing inspirational posters which link to careers advice. I wanted to produce something which can be bright and inspirational for students leaving school and going into either jobs or higher education. I want them to be bright and bold and maybe even slightly sarcastic.

Evaluation

What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

throughout this module I really feel like I have developed my theoretical skills, through Lorenzo and Fred's sessions I have learned much more about both layout and type. For example i now know more about letter forms and what makes them and certain typeface. my confidence has also grow in terms of being able to use software such as in design. Before this module I had never used it and now I feel like I could use it to create new and interesting layouts.

What approaches to methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I feel like I have improved most in my layout, Lorenzo's sessions were really beneficial as I would never of chosen to produce something which was based on layout whereas I think I would now. I really enjoyed drawing the layouts and once I started they were fun to do. It was really interesting doing something which i had never done in the past.

What strengths can you identify in your work, how have/will you capitalise these in your work?

Since producing the hot dog books in Ambers sessions i feel like i have used this a lot. it is a publication which i would like to use again in the future, they are relatively quick to do and look effective. I have also benefitted from doing work on layout and have used it with what is a line. My work could still be greatly improved but I think it has already improved from learning about layout since the last module.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you go about improving them in the future.

One thing which i really think would improve my work would be if I branched out a little bit more and did things which I am not in my comfort zone with. for my next project i want to mange my time more and make a weekly plan to organise my time more.i wish i had produced more from this module, such as in what is a line.

Identify 5 things which you will do differently next time.

  1. make my design sheets neater and more easy to understand and read.
  2. make sure i use the skills learnt in the last module to produce things in the current module.
  3. produce products at different scales and using different methods.
  4. go to more workshops in my spare time, I want to use screen printing in my work.
  5. be more confident with my ideas, and especially when pitching or presenting.

Final Posters

Final Poster Designs which could be placed in and around STA.

This poster went wrong as when I  was making it I forgot to change  it from europe to Australia. I am overall pleased with these posters, but I'm not sure wether they portray the message or not.

Preparatory work for What is a line

My like was Travel, My line was Patterns inspired by different cultures and my choice of graphic design was a publication.
I was originally focusing on The Nazca Lines in south america but i have changed my idea slightly and I am now focusing on global travel.
I have decided to produce 5 leaflets linked to STA travel. one will be on Asia, one will be on Africa, one will be on Europe, one will be on Australia and one will be on South america. on the back of each leaflet there will be a pattern inspired by that countries heritage.
I played around with some shapes and patterns to make an south american looking pattern, to go on the back of the south american leaflet.

Designing my final publication

I have decided to produce a set of leaflets for STA travel, I will produce 5 different ones and 5 posters to promote STA Travel. this has changed from my initial idea as i was going to focus on Nazca lines in South America. However I changed this as there was not enough content.AS my like was travel I thought it would be a good idea to focus on doing work for a travel company and as STA is a student Travel company.
This was the process which I went through when designing my STA Travel leaflets I started by picking a typeface for my Publication which is similar to the type which STA uses. The name of it is Designosaur.

I then layer out the publication in illustrator. I wanted the leaflet to be able to fit into your pocket so I designed it to be very thin and ling instead of square. it will fold 7 times and then fold around itself, similar to a book cover.

This was the colour pallet  which I have chosen. the colours are all quite pale as i didn't want them to effect the legibility of the information.

Then for each country I design a map, briefly listing the countries within the selected area of choice. I also added the top 5 experiences. planning your trip and an inside cover.
